Bunker Row

Just inside the sallyport you look to the right and see the back side of the bunker hill and the ventilation shafts protruding from the individual bunkers.

Turning the camera slightly left points it toward the center of the compound. This view is looking toward the North West. There are two rows of bunkers. One along the east side and one along the north side. My observation at this point was that the bunker doors face west and south which I surmise would have helped protect them from hurricane winds which would come from the north and east. I've been told there was once a third row of bunkers which was demolished early on due to explosive limits.

Still standing at the sallyport and scanning further left, you see the remainder of the compound and perimeter road with the water tower located in the south west corner.

Going forward I turn right and snap a shot of the east bunkers. Several doors are open.

This is an open bunker door. The red lettering says 1000 LB explosive limit. Creepy thinking a nuke may have been stored here.
